Dothack Day August 9th is coming soon and we need your help make it trend and make "Operation Dothack Day" a reality. Tag @bnei876 @bandainamcous on August 9th in your timezone or schedule a post now so a post by you is automatically set. Use hash tags #dothack #ドットハック

How will this help? Those in the know will already be posting content on Dothack Day anyways, an annual celebration of all things dothack from fans. A term coined by CC2 staff for the Japanese sound 8 and 9 make "ha" and "ku" respectively haku = dot hack

With the yearly content shared on top of building awareness and coordinating help among all the dothack fans, dothack communities, fan sites, news outlets, streamers, internet personalities, and influencers; hopefully this year we can dominate the trending tab on every social media and point fingers at BandaiNamco Japan and BandaiNamco US to know there is still interest in .hack by fans. They and only they have the rights to the .hack franchise, CyberConnect2 has no rights or ownership over the property and have been steadily the main game development company behind it's story and content.

And we want Bandai Namco to continue this collaboration with CyberConnect2 by either porting, remake, or remastering older titles such as .hack//Infection, .hack//Mutation, .hack//Outbreak, .hack//Quarantine, .hack//fragment, .hack//LINK, .hack//VERSUS, Guilty Dragon, .hack//New World, etc... to modern consoles, handhelds, smart phones, and PC.

Or they create newer content in the continuity and timeline of the established franchise with either a sequel, prequel, or anything in between.

Remember the first .hack games were made available in Japan, North America, Europe, Australia, and South Korea. It's sequel the .hack//GU series only received a Japan and North American release. And .hack//LINK only received a Japan release only in 2010. Along with all further games after this point including .hack//VERSUS, Guilty Dragon, and .hack//New World. It wasn't till 2017 that we saw a world wide release for a remaster of .hack//GU for Steam on PC and for PlayStation 4 in Japan, North America, Europe/Australia, and Southeast Asia. And again later in 2022 a port of that remaster for the Nintendo Switch with physical versions in Japan, North America, and Southeast Asia only, no Europe/Australia/South Korea.

For years since 2010 the game developer CyberConnect2 has responded to fan requests localizing the games for their region, only for CyberConnect2 to remind the fans they make the game, they do not own it. Bandai Namco is the owner of the IP, intellectual property, of the franchise .hack and only they have the say when a game is made and where it's made available. CyberConnect2 president & CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama has gone on record countless times telling fans to ask BandaiNamco. So much so that just about all the other CyberConnect2 staff have gone on record saying the same including Hiroto Niizato & Taichiro Miyazaki.

But this only works with you and because of you. Beforehand requests have been here and there, rarely collaborated and coordinated to show a huge spike, uptick, a message that anyone  who works at Bandai Namco to really notice.

This August 9th, help us by making it trend. Say what you want to say, the important thing is to say it. And to tag the profile for Bandai Namco JP & US on that platform, and to use hash tags to make it easier for them and everyone else find your message.

So to recap:

  • Make a post on August 9th (or schedule one)
  • The post and/or image can be whatever you want asking for remakes, ports, or brand new games
  • Tag the JP & US accounts of BandaiNamco
  • Use the hashtags #dothack #ドットハック

What else can you do?

More options the better! In addition in building awareness on August 9th, leading up to that faithful day you can continue to send messages to their social accounts each day. But more importantly, never under estimate the power of mail. You can also write letters to their offices in North America and Japan simply writing a letter letting them know your love of the series and requests to continue to make more and port the older PS2, PSP, PS3, and smart phone games to modern systems. Here are the mailing and email addresses of each company.
